Dehuman Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hi guys Andrea (vox/bass) here from Dehuman! Alrigth, everything is
going on fine out here. The band just signed to Kaotoxin for the CD
release, Tanquam Aegri Somnia for LP release, we are very happy to ba
able to propose both audio platfoms. We just got back from a French
tour in April with fellows Agathocles, which was a fuckin blast. We
are now working on new songs and starting the conceptual work for the
world of our next record.

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
The musical sound of this new record was pretty much based on the
sound of records of 90’s Suffocation, Malevolent Creation and Morbid
Angel and keeping up to date with 2012 composition and technical
approach. Pretty much the album definitely wants to be old school in
the feel while maintaining the up to date composition of songs. We
have worked a lot on the guitars, recording each guitar 2 times to
come close to the wall of sound feel. Of course we worked with a click
track to be sure the drums where properly on time. In the overall mix
a big emphasis was put on the low frequencies to get a warm and
organic sound. We did not use a lot compression to keep a maximum of
dynamic throughout the album, again to keep this organic feel. Overall
I would say we tend to have a soft mix to balance with the brutality
and aggression of the tracks.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores
with the music?
We tend to focus our lyrical approach toward man. The theme of album
is the destruction of man by man and our vulnerability toward our
environment. In a song like ‘Harvest the Sun’ we describe how we are
dependent on the sun and that its destruction will cause the death of
us all. On the other hand Eyes of Thousand refers to the concept of
J.P Sartre that “l’enfer c’est les autres” (hell is others) saying
that we exist through others and that the perception that we have of
our self is how we understand the perception that other individuals
have of us. On the other hand ‘Path to Oblivion’ describes how there
is no need of a enormous events to destroy us all, we are at the mercy
of all and first of all of us. Finally a track like “Apocalypse and
Perdition” describes with a nuclear war metaphor any possible way of
inner destruction. I would say this album tries to convey our
predisposition to destruction.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
The meaning behind the band’s name is inspired by the concept of
dehumanization. But for sure time it doesn’t mean anything which gave
us a good reason to choose it. For the inspiration we have to thanks
Neverligth Horizon and their album Dehumanized out in 2004.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and
how would you describe your stage performance?
One of the best performance was in Toulouse at the Pavillons Sauvage
where we literally had all the crowd in a full packed venue. It is one
on these shows where the stage is directly on the floor so everybody
being at our high really got in the show. Something really happened
between us and the crowd, I can’t remember a moment where these crazy
motherfuckers did not mosh. I also remember a show we played 2 years
back in Brussels for party where everybody was really drunk, and
really trashed the venue. A guy with a broken leg came to us after the
show saying he did resist moshing during the whole show.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
We have a tour planned with Master in October throughout Europe, and
some shows in Italy and France in November. We might have an
interesting festival in December but nothing I can confirm for the
moment.

7. Currently you are singed to Kaotoxin Records, how did you get in
contact with this label and how would you describe the support that
they have given you so far?
I got his phone number through a friend that organizes gigs here in
Brussels and that call upon him for some of his bands. I gave him a
call saying that we were looking for a label and that we would be
interested in Kaotoxin, after having given our website he told me he
would give me call the day after. 30 minutes he called me back saying
we had a deal. Has for the support, I have to say we are very pleased
with it so far, he is doing real well with the means available. For
sure the best thing he got us is the tour with holy Master in October.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by
fans of death metal?
We are still waiting for a larger world wide feedback. For now, 20
days before the official release we have had real good feedback,
people enjoy our music and look forward for our next album. I think
that most people enjoy the fact that we play DEATH METAL, no
compromise. We will see what happens after the European tour.

9. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full
time line up?
Dehuman is full time line up, we don’t have any session musicians in
the band. Although some of us have been asked to play has session
musicians. Our drummer is helping out Vibrion from Argentina for the
recording of their next album and I have been asked to help has a
session guitar player for the first Tunisian grind band Human Scum,
that will be playing Obscene Extreme this summer.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
More infernal blast beats and more black metal influences. We will try
to concentrate to have longer and more uniformed songs. I think it
will be darker, faster and very brutal. Again no compromised will be
made.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your
music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I will have to say that our main influence derives from early 90’s
American death metal that can be summed up in Suffocation, Morbid
Angel and Death. We also have been influenced by the more progressive
works of Atheist, Cynic and John Zorn. Nowadays I am listening to a
lot of experimental and dark folk music such has Nurse with Wounds or
Sol Invictus, crust bands like Skyt System, Detestation, Amaeroba and
the new Emptiness.

12. Does Occultism play any role in your music?
Occultism does not play any role in our music but historical materialism does.

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I enjoy a lot any form of visual art, most of all painting. I grasp a
special interest for ancient civilization and of course in women and
fine whisky.

14. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thank you for this interview, keep on supporting real death metal and
stay fucking brutal.
