Slaughterday are a band from Germany that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as being old school death metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Nightmare Vortex" which was released by FDA Rekotz.
"Unearthly Evocation" opens up the album with heavy and old school death metal guitar and bass riffs along with some blast beats and deep old school death metal growls as well as alternating between slow and fast parts as well as mixing in some dark sounding melodies and after awhile guitar leads start coming in and out of the song.
"Nightmare Vortex" begins with some drum beats and dark melodic guitar riffs and a few seconds later the music gets heavier with some bass guitars and deep death metal growls and a minute later guitar solos and leads start coming in and out of the song.
"Addicted To The Grave" kicks with blast beats, primitive death metal guitar and bass riffs along with some growls and then alternating between slow and fast parts as well as adding in some guitar solos and leads that come in and out of the song.and towards the end the music starts utilizing some melody.
"Cosmic Horror" starts have with death metal guitar solos and leads, bass guitars and drums before adding in fast and heavy guitar riffs and growls and a minute later t he song slows down along with more solos before getting fast and primitive again.
"Morbid Shroud Of Sickness" takes off with dark and heavy old school death metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and growls before adding in some dark sounding melodies and going into a faster direction along with and then the song alternates between slow and fast parts as well as adding in some solos and leads.
"Cult Of The Dreaming Dead" has its opening with dark, heavy and melodic guitar and bass riffs along with some drums before going into a faster direction along with some blast beats and deep growls as w ell as alternating between slow and fast parts and adding in melodic sounding guitar solos and leads and halfway through the song there is a brief use of clean sections.
"Obsessed With The Undead" has it beginnings with dark and melodic guitar and bass riffs that get heavier along with some drums and a minute later growls make their presence known in the song and after awhile there is a brief use of horror movie samples which also leads up to some guitar solos and leads.
"Cryptic Desolation" which is also the last song on the album begins with heavy and melodic death metal guitar riffs and drums along with some growls a few seconds later and after awhile the music gets faster along with some blast beats before alternating between slow and fast parts as well as adding in guitar leads.
Song lyrics cover H.P Lovecraft and horror themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and old school sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Slaughterday and if you are a fan of old school death metal, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unearthly Evocation" "Addicted To The Grave" "Cult Of The Dreaming Dead" and "Cryptic Desolation". RECOMMENDED BUY.
