1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Infected Chaos was formed mid 2013 from the remnants of Chaosreign. As the string fraction consisting of Matt (git), Martin (git) and Flo (bass) remained, the line-up was completed by drummer Christoph who also plays in Austrian Thrash Metal band Preterior and vocalist Christian, former Breßack. We´re from Southern Germany and Northern Austria.
We recorded our debut “The Wake of Ares” from summer 2013 until early 2014 all by ourselves while mixing and mastering was done by Christoph Brandes in renowned Iguana Studios who delivered a fantastic job.
2.You have your first album coming out later this month, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
It´s just classical, crushing death metal with catchy leads and no technical ballast. Straight to your face! The sound quality is naturally but clear. Outstanding work by Christoph. Thanks once more for that!
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Most songs deal with the world as it is today. The masses are repressed and punished by some kind of an “elite” that´s just working for its own profit. Greed determines the way the world turns nowadays. But there´s also resistance against it. And that´s one way to interpret the album title. The ancient god of war is summoned to grant strength in those hard times. The other songs deal with typical death metal issues like death and desperation. Just find out for yourself.
4.In the album title you had 'Ares', and on the album you had a song called IO, the God Of War, do the band members have a huge interest in Mythology'?
I (Christian) would not use the term “religious” for any of my bandmates. But I do have a certain interest in different, ancient cultures and there beliefs and rituals, especially for greek mythology. But as said before, Ares is used in a symbolic way here. I had to deal with an awful situation in private life and had to find my inner strength. That was the first time, Ares came to my mind and a good friend of mine suggested to let him also appear in the title of our album as a statement: “Here I am! I´m back and I´m strong!”. And then I realized I could also use him for the whole concept of the album.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Infected Chaos'?
We were just looking for a cool sounding name that can easily be remembered. And as a bonus it also relates to the former name Chaosreign. But it was never an option to simply use that name because we´re a new band with other individuals in it.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
As it´s very hard to play shows here because the scene is very small I definitely have to mention our second gig we played in Aalen (Ger) at Rock It Club. We opened for legendary Possessed! What a fucking honour!!! Our second gig and that´s with some of the godfather´s of Death Metal!!! It was overwhelming although the audience could have been bigger. But Mille (owner of Rock It) treated us great and the guys of Possessed were also very cool!
We don´t think a lot when we go on stage. Just sinking into the music and letting your inner beast take possession of yourself. I would describe us as very energetic. Just come to our shows and judge by yourself.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans once the album is released?
On March 27th, the day the album will finally be released, we will be playing a gig in Ehrwald (A) with two local bands and we are confirmed for the Aaargh!-Festival in Leutkirch/Germany which will take place from june 11th to 13th. We will be opening on Friday. It´s a small but therefore very familiar festival I can only recommend.
But we´re always hungry to enter a stage, so bookers, feel free to contact us!
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
Since the album has not been released yet, there´s not so much feedback until now. Finnish Underground Zine “TheTrueBringerOfDeath” reviewed our album and we got fantastic 8/10. But otherwise there are not that much comments so far. I guess one problem is the social media. People get access to so much new music everyday and thus many just is heard and forgotten. The key to stay in people´s minds is the live experience. Total explosion, blast to your face, exhausted band, exhausted crowd... That´s the metal way!
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
At the moment we´re writing songs for our second album. Our goal is a release in the middle of 2016. And we hope to play a lot of live shows because that´s why we´re doing all this. And we are very happy to have found an eager partner with MetalMusic Austria that can help us to push the band to the next level.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I would have to lie if I didn´t mention the swedish death metal explosion in the 90ies... But I think we got a more modern approach to it, especially the way it sounds. But we really don´t think like “oh, let´s do a song that sounds like early Dismember” or something like that. We just grab our instruments and let it happen. If it´s brutal and we like it, it´s fine. I also can hear some swedish black metal influences in our sound.
I for myself listen mainly to the old masters but am also open for new stuff as long as there´s no “core” in it. It´s fantastic to see the German Death Metal scene explode at the moment, spitting great new bands out almost everyday.
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
I just try to keep healthy so I can keep up growling and screaming as long as possible. And I´m very interested in literature and old cultures, which also reflects on my style of writing lyrics... So I got no other interest than music, if you want so...
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Get your asses up, go to the shows and support the underground! That´s where metal is made, that´s why it can live! We all are the scene! Cheers!
